Great post, Jim! I have witnessed new leaders fall prey to the authority trap. It's the first thing I watch for when someone is moving into a management position. Authority must immediately be remapped into responsibility, among the other principles you described, and if that doesn't resonate with due coaching, the person is unfortunately not cut out for management. When we let those things go, we create ineffective, untrusted managers who let the authority seed fester into habits.
