Love the “stuff your ego in a sack and throw it in the river” analogy. Ego is often the enemy of compromise. Maybe even remove the word “often.”

The ego in a sack bit is from one of my very first pieces. I have lifted the paywall in case you are interested: https://jimsalvucci.substack.com/p/stuff-your-ego-in-a-sack-and-throw-it-in-the-river

Thanks for this and the previous article Jim. They make a really good pair of articles on, as you say, the complicated matter of compromise. This piece really helped clarify my own inner struggle with compromise - when to, when not to, how much, is it weakness or is it strong leadership, etc? Your metaphors of Mt Sanctimonious and throwing the Ego bag in the river were great at capturing the essence. At the same time, revisiting the core of your previous article makes this complete - for me. These two I'm definitely going to share. Also, thanks for being genuine in your connection and responsiveness to your readers; while I was very pleasantly surprised at getting a response to my initial comment, I really didn't expect such a fulsome follow-up. Thanks, Peter

Peter, you are welcome, and I am glad you found them helpful. Without your response to the first, the second would never have been written.
