This is an important lesson as it translates to leadership principles. It's easy to assume an incoming team member knows certain things, but the right thing to do is to onboard them in a way that establishes a development plan tailored to their needs, especially if said person is a direct report. Even if they're not a direct report, we should coach their supervisor (our direct report) to ensure a culture of teaching within the organization that meets individuals where they're at without assumption.
