This reminds me of The Five Dysfunctions of a Team. It would be interesting to dive into the management of Dysfunction Junction to understand where the issues exist. While they made it right at the end, a functional team would have detected the slippery slope far before the requested management conversation.
On a lighter note, this was a fun read - I know zilch about the restaurant industry, but Mariah and I have had far too many experiences similar to this. Luckily not on our anniversary!
Thanks, Josh. Pretty much the only thing that went right was the manager at the end, which would have been fine except for the abysmal food. The crab dish was tell-tale. It was not just poorly made but the ingredients were lousy. This place seems to thrive, I guess, because the clientele is there for the “scene.” A few weeks after this, my wife and I were walking by and the chef was standing outside the kitchen door smoking weed. This was shortly before the dinner crowd would arrive. I think we discovered a significant source of the dysfunction!

Ha! Your overcooked meals are obvious now that we know the chef is zoned out!
