OMG! I had 2 bosses who took everything personally. We had to tip toe on everything we did and we were never sure what would set these self centered nincompoops off! It was awful. I lost sleep, gained wait from the increased adrenaline in my body, and had high blood pressure. I HAD to get out - my health was being compromised. And of course, job hunting took way too long in both cases. Thank you for this. I so needed to know we were not alone.

I am very sorry for your experience. There is no reason anyone should go through so much torment because of a stupid boss.
in many ways, taking things personally is just another way to be a bully, and bully bosses are definitionally incompetent!
